The ASLville Committee is proud to announce the Student Art Competition for the 2017 ASLville Competition.

 

  • The winner and school will be recognized in the program and during the ASL Idol ceremony on September 23, 2017 at College of the Canyons in Valencia, California.

 

  • The winner’s artwork will be used to promote ASLville and the day’s events and merchandise.

 

  • This competition is open for students in grades 9th – 12th attending DHH programs, including state residential schools for the Deaf.

 

Original Creation Criteria:

  • The artwork shall address an element of ASL and or Deaf culture including music, communication, interaction, language, or any combination of the above listed.

  • The artwork shall address the emotion of the event - a celebration of ASL and Signing Idol.

  • The image shall be artwork original to the student’s imagination, emotions and talent.

  • The artwork can be created in any of the following media: Acrylic paint, charcoal, watercolors, colored pencils, Sharpie/markers, crayons, pencil sketch or digital.

  • Clipart or other images not belonging to the student artist will not be accepted.

  • Work that is not original to the student will be disqualified.

 

How to submit an entry:

  • Entry fees vary depending on the number of artwork submissions your school sends.

    • $20 for 1 - 5 submissions

    • $30 for 6 -10 submissions

    • $40 for 11 - 15 submissions

 

  • Entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstance.

 

  • Students may enter as many pieces of original artwork as they wish.

 

  • Payment for entries will be paid to ASLville PayPal account (see link below).

 

  • Payment and artwork must both be received on or before the deadline: May 12, 2017 by 11:59pm, PST.

 

How to submit artwork:

  • Scan artwork and save it as a .jpeg file with a 400 dpi resolution or higher.

  • How to name your artwork file: Student's Last name_First name_School name

Judging

Artwork will be posted on the ASL Idol website to be voted on by America and judged on the following criteria:

  • Interpretation and clarity of the event based on ASL, Deaf culture, music, communication, interaction, language, or any combination of the above listed.

  • Quality of artistic skills and overall design of the artwork.

  • Overall impression of the art.

  • Connection to the tone of the event.

 

Winners will be announced June 5, 2017

1st place $500

Second place: $250 

Third place: $100 

(Prize amounts may increase with an abundance of art submissions.  Spread the word!)

 

For the teacher:

Student artists must be currently enrolled in the 9th – 12th grades. Artwork will be posted on the ASL Idol website to be voted on by America. The ASL Idol Committee reserves the right to use the art for promotion of the event and the artist will be recognized in the ASL Idol Program.

 

Art competition is open from April 4, 2017 - May 12, 2017. All submissions must be received by: May 12, 2017 11:59PM PST. Late entries will be not be accepted. Entries submitted by a person other than the currently enrolled 9th – 12th grader will be disqualified. Voting will take place from May 15, 2017 - May 30, 2017.
