It is time to shine, ASL! We are bringing deaf and hearing signers to perform and showcase their talents on the stage. The concept of ASL Idol has been percolating in communities across America. It is time for a National competition which will provide an opportunity for students of all ages, and all signers, deaf or hearing, to bring their talents to one location for an epic event!
Find a song, write an original song, and then interpret it into ASL to become the first ever ASL Song Artist!
How did ASL Artist Song Competition begin?
CJ Jones and Brittany Applen became fast friends during a College of the Canyon ASL Club event. They not only enjoy working together, they realize they share a passion to develop the first ASL Artist Song Competition nationwide event.
They noticed that deaf were not able to fulfill their dreams to “shine” like the contestants on shows like American Idol, The Voice, and America's Got Talent. How could deaf have access to that life changing opportunity? That is why we created ASL Artist, to give deaf and hearing signers a forum to become stars on a national scale.
This year, we are hosting ASL Artist Song Competition. In the future, we plan to produce other ASL Artist events that will encompass a wide variety of talents. ASL Artist Monologues. ASL Artist Comedy. ASL Artist Poetry. And the ideas keep flowing. Let us know how you want to shine, we want to know what YOU want!
The collaborative process of holding the first national American Sign Language (ASL) Artist Song Competition has been a community building adventure that has included so many people: deaf, hearing, signers, non-signers and everything in between. Thank you for helping to Elevate! American Sign Language to the mainstream.
